We provide innovative mechanical solutions for advanced technology prototypes. Prototypes we have worked on include airborne and space-based laser communications systems, biological agent detectors and identifiers, and large radar antenna systems. We are the Engineering research area's center for 3D computer-aided design with expertise in precision-engineered systems, optomechanical systems, mechanisms, dynamic metrology, composite structures, highly efficient lightweight structures, electronics packaging, and cable design. Our staff are involved in every step of a program's execution from conceptual design all the way to environmental and performance testing.
Lincoln Laboratory is a fast paced, innovative, research and development environment with a reputation for excellence in the production of unique, prototype systems critical to national security. The Mechanical Engineering Group has extensive capabilities necessary for the design of undersea, ground, airborne and space systems which allow us to tackle a wide range of technical challenges including large structures, space systems, and high precision optical systems. The group is also the Engineering Division s center for CAD and data management.
The successful candidate will:
? This position is 50% design and 50% PLM administration ? Lead the design and documentation of system interconnects and cable and harness assemblies. ? Possess extensive knowledge of aerospace applications and NASA specs, connector selection, wire types/sizes/derating, voltage drops, electro-mechanical packaging, electrical fabrication & assembly techniques and Military, ASME & IEEE standards. ? Perform design calculations, select appropriate components/hardware, and prepare design concepts and layouts. ? Manage designs through design, release, procurement, and change processes ? Possess a good working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly techniques ? Be skilled with 3D & 2D CAD (Computer Aided Design) software, PDM (Product Data Management) and/or PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software, ASME drafting standards including GD&T, fit checks and tolerance studies.
Will support Lincoln s Aras Innovator user base
- ? Develop training ? Act as a liaison to Aras ? Help implement new Aras functionality ? Help to develop methods to optimize Aras usage ? Act as a knowledge base for Aras questions ? Perform outreach across Laboratory to educate users ? Ensure consistency in the usage of Division 7 s usage of Aras
Design Specialists in the Mechanical Engineering Group require little supervision and perform assignments with creative ability, resourcefulness, and originality. Design Specialists must take initiative and be thorough and detailed. They must work effectively with individuals from various groups and at many levels of the organization. They must also demonstrate effective communication skills.
Experience designing cables and/or electronic packaging preferred Experience with Microsoft Office and SolidWorks products preferred BSME or BSEE, or greater than 10 years experience
