As a Automation Technical Specialist, youll have a senior role in supporting pipeline operations. This team member will use innovation and judgement to solve complex problems, working closely with Operations, Gas Control, SCADA, Various Company Projects Teams and Centralized Company Automation Engineering Department to ensure accurate and available data. You may direct the work of others, so leadership, presentation and training are important skills to have.

  • Performs moderately difficult assignments to ensure system integrity, support pipeline operations, maintain compliance and maintain facility equipment

  • Troubleshoots/solves complex problems using technical evaluation, innovation and judgment

  • Develops, presents and trains internal and external stakeholders and may direct work of others

  • Participates in project planning and works closely with stakeholders

  • Leads development and tasks associated with operations, equipment maintenance, technical standards and/or governmental requirements

  • Works closely with Operations, Gas Control, SCADA, Various Company Projects Teams and Centralized Company Automation Engineering Department to ensure accurate and available data

  • Reads, understands and evaluates automation programs, engineering design documents, contracts and agreements

  • Follows all Company policies, safety procedures and Williams Core Values & Beliefs

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Required: Six (6) years experience in oil & gas industry

  • Preferred: Associates degree in technical field

  • Preferred: 10 years experience in field operations or other technical specialty field and Bachelor of Science in a technical field or engineering

  • Preferred: Previous experience programming automation associated with compressor station equipment such as engines, natural gas compressors, air compressors, boilers, safety systems, remote valve automation, HMIs, etc.

  • Preferred: Proficient with testing equipment for electrical, pneumatic, milli amp loop, analog and digital equipment.

  • Preferred: Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC equipment, hardware, software, and programming

Physical and Environment Work Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Work in extreme temperatures, with loud noises and in enclosed spaces

  • Carry and lift items that weigh a minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and squat, often for long periods of time

  • Work at elevated levels, potentially from man lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and/or small towers, with appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)

  • Use hand tools

Shift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to work after hours as needed for assignment. On-call for telephone support for front line employees.

  • May be required to work longer hours when traveling between Williams locations with occasional overnight stay

Other Requirements:

  • Must possess valid State Drivers License and clean driving record

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
